Studio Lighting

Below is examples of the different lighting techniques, these are my personal shots that I have produce to represent each technique. I will also include a description of how to produce each lighting technique.

imgp3142

FLAT

Use a second D-lite strobe and Portalite softbox for this setup and position both lights(each set to the same power and the same angle) either side of the model at head height. Notice the lack of shadows.

imgp3146

SPLIT

Position a light to one side of the model in such a way that no light spills onto the other side of the face, With a shadow line running down the centre. Multiple light modifiers will work here.

imgp3151

BUTTERFLY

Position one light above and directly in line with the centre of the subjects face. Notice how there is an even shadow under the nose. Its best if this shadow doesn’t reach all the way down the upper lip.

imgp3155

REMBRANDT

Position the light high and to the side to create a triangle on the models cheek. The shadow of the nose should towards the edge of the lips. The Portalite creates a soft effect.

LOOP

This setup is similar to ‘Rembrandt’but rather than creating a close triangle of light on the unlit cheek, the shadow from the nose should create a loop pointing towards the corner of the mouth.

Today we were learnt how to use Adobe Illustrator. I knew a few bits and pieces but not enough to create a piece of work.
As our new brief is to work with the Music students and to create a album cover for them. We are required to learn a bit about Adobe Illustrator. 1.
I firstly set up my page correctly:

2. By creating my first layer, I went onto View, Rulers, Show Rulers. T

his will help me to measure out where I place things on my page.

3. To help you better, by clicking and dragging on each rule (Shown on the left hand side and top of your page) You get two blue lines that go across your page. By clicking on the Horizontal align centre they will automatically place in the centre of your page.

4. We started off with using the star tool.

5. By changing the colour to yellow and thickness to 10.

6. I then created a circle. And changed the colour and thickness to the same as the triangle.

7. I then changed the circle to blue and removed the colour of the triangle to make it see through.
I then selected onto the circle, went onto object, arrange and send back.

8. The first few steps were just to play around and understand a little bit about what we will be doing. I deleted the circle and created a large rectangle. Changed the outline and fill colour to black and just like the circle i arranged the rectangle to the back. I also changed the outline of the triangle to white (Which also helped as i would not be able to see it)

9. I created a new layer, used CMD X on the triangle (To copy) and pasted it onto the new layer. Just like you would in photo shop.

10. Just under the text tool is the Line Segment tool. Just like the other shapes i clicked and dragged for the line to appear on a new layer. Changed the colour to white and positioned it so it was connecting with the triangle.

11. I then created a new triangle. With this one i had to use the white arrowscreen-shot-2016-11-14-at-15-11-50

. As you can see in the images below, within the line there is a path and anchor. Using the anchor you are able to move the shape around without moving the whole thing. I was able to move it so it is in line with the other triangle.

12. We then decided to give the smaller triangle a fill. By going on the Gradient tool i was able to give it a different style fill.

13. By getting rid of the outline I was able to create this:

14. Finally, on my layer 5 i created 6 different lines (With the outline of 10) I joined them up from the edge of the smaller triangle. I changed them all with different colours.screen-shot-2016-11-14-at-15-11-50screen-shot-2016-11-14-at-15-11-54

16. As you can see, i crated the album, Dark side of the moon.
Even though the album so don’t contain text, we were given a task to add this in.
